The Royal Fair (Kraljevo 1915)
The Royal Fair was written by Croatia’s most revered playwright, Miroslav Krleza, in 1915.
At the request of the Istrian National Theatre in Pula, Croatia, Jacqui Carroll, Artistic Director of Ozfrank, was invited to direct a production of this play for main theatre presentation in Pula in 2003.
The fresh 21st century look at this play was subsequently shown in Pula and Brisbane, Australia  in a bi-lingual production.

For those who want to study European plays and cross-cultural theatre works this DVD shows the English/Croatian language mix. The play has been heavily edited to present as a one act drama.
It is principally about the reflections of two men, one a recent suicide and the other a long term suicide discussing the sensations of the twilight world between lives while crossing between the present, the past and the future.
A curious and intriguing work of theatre.

The Royal Fair by Miroslav Krleza

Reviews
…Carroll’s excellent distillation of the tale centred on the futility of suicide in seeking peace from the torment of lost love….Conan Dunning showed, powerfully, that death is no escape. He is an excellent mover and conveyer of the theme.

…Such was the power of movement from Croatian actors Dora Polic, Marijana Kardelj, Nina Kaic and Lana Gojak performing with
OzFrank members John Nobbs,Annette Schoenberg, Julie Marich,Tracey Kay, Rachel Ross, Alexandra Collier, Thierry Cartoux
and Ira Seidenstein, that the theme was strong even through the interaction of the two languages English and Croatian.

…Frank Theatre co-directors continue to push the boundaries of performance and communication.”
